Built to move bodies. Engineered to build culture.

Mollison “Body Mechanic” Folson came up on Detroit’s Westside, beginning as a high-school DJ alongside longtime partner DJ Dee. School functions, family gatherings, and local radio mixshows became the early workshop for a career built around reading rooms, controlling energy, and understanding how music moves through a community.

Folson expanded that foundation through formal studio-engineering training and business studies at Henry Ford Community College. While there, he hosted the Detroit Promo radio show for two years on WHFR 89.3 FM in Dearborn—connecting his DJ instincts with broadcasting, artist promotion, and the practical work of creating a platform.

During the 1990s, Body Mechanic worked as a studio DJ with artists including Kurtis Blow, Rap Mafia, and Papa J Smooth. That experience helped form an unusually broad production language: Detroit techno and electro, ghettotech and rap, vocal records, bootleg experiments, and concept albums that move between hard machinery and relationship-driven storytelling.

As co-owner of h3o Recordings and co-founder of Detroit Techno Records, Folson’s work extends beyond his own catalog. The Body Mechanic identity is equally about infrastructure—engineering sessions, developing artists, releasing records, building broadcasts, and keeping Detroit’s independent electronic-music network active.
